Contact adhesives
These adhesives are applied to one or both bonding surfaces. The solvent typically serves two purposes: first, to keep the dissolved polymer, which later forms the actual bond, workable, and second, to prepare the surface to which the adhesive is applied so that the dissolved polymers can bond as effectively as possible. Bonding can occur very quickly, as the solvent evaporates rapidly. For this reason, solvent-based adhesives have been and continue to be indispensable in both industrial and craft applications. When used correctly, they are safe and comply with even the most stringent environmental regulations.
